The Dangers of Excessive Social Media Consumption

Social media has become a routine for a lot of people. Even though it has many benefits, it is important to realize that the overuse of social media can bring harm to both physical and mental health.


Excessive social media consumption can affect your body in harmful ways. It may influence you to compulsively and excessively use social media. Your body does not move much and your brain can only think of whatever appears on the screen.



        Sometimes, you are not even thinking at all and just scrolling endlessly. It can cause physical inactivity, sleep deprivation, and laziness. It's better to set a time limit for being online on the internet. Instead of wasting your time endlessly on social media, doing daily exercise will benefits your body and mind positively.


        In addition, excessive use of social media can fuel anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, loneliness, and many other mental health issues.



        Being online for too long may distort your perspective on social activities. You might start to think that risk-taking behaviour, such as dangerous pranks, challenges, sexual activity, or even criminal activity, are the norm in society. Be careful about the contents you follows and think twice before recording and posting


        The presence of a phone can interfere on how we form and maintain relationship with others. It's simply too distracting. Social media can be harmful when it replaces time with family and friends. Developing social skills are crucial, especially for young people. Take a break from your phone or any form of social media when you are with other people.


                In conclusion, social media is dangerous for both physical and mental health if we are not careful in using it. Being online for too long does more harm than good to your body and social life.
